Classes at the Joan Harris Centre are highly structured and are designed to help each dancer reach his or her maximum potential.
Class size is limited to ensure a low student to teacher ratio. To keep classes consistent and organized, only Elisabeth Harris and Jennifer Harris can place a student into a class. The master instructors of the school evaluate each student and place them in a class according to several criteria including; age, skill level, training and maturity.
At the beginning of each season, a class is examined and then given a syllabus of steps, terms and dances that must be completed by year’s end. Three times annually, three master instructors from the centre test the different classes, and evaluate each and every student in the school to gauge their progress. The results are relayed to faculty administrators Miss Elisabeth and Miss Jennifer, who then recommends the next stage of the class’s development.
