Perhaps the most popular form of dance studied at the Joan Harris Centre is jazz dance. Like all the other disciplines taught at the studio, there is a major emphasis on training in both proper technique and correct terminology. Jazz is sometimes referred to as the American form of ballet since it borrows so heavily from its older cousin and the Harris Centre therefore recommends training in both disciplines.
Like all the other programs held at the studio, students studying jazz will be introduced to its many forms. Dancers will learn Straight Jazz dances , MTV style Hip-Hop numbers, Fosse style pieces and beautiful, stirring lyrical routines. There are even progress classes in modern dance which will introduce students to the world of Martha Grahm and Isadora Duncan. The jazz dance classes at the studio are not only one of the most popular but also one of the most expressive forms of dance for our students.
