Before you leave your home, make sure that you have all that you need for class, such as your dance shoes, clothes and any special prop your class is using in a routine. Arrive at the studio ten minutes before the start of your class and sign in at the front desk. If you have a dance card, give it to the desk for them to stamp. Now take sometime for yourself to prepare for class or catch up with your classmates.
Be sure to find out your teacher’s name, (and the student aid’s name if you have one). Teachers and staff personnel should always be addressed with a “Miss” or “Mr.” before their first name like “Miss Jennifer” or “Mr. Sean”. Remember to give your full attention in the classroom to the teacher since we only see you for a short time each week. Don’t be afraid to raise your hand, answer a question or try a new step. These teachers are here to train you and have been hand picked not only for their skills but also for their personalities. They want to see you get the most out of every class and will be glad to give you that extra time. Besides, it shows that you really care. After a great dance class it is customary to applaud your teacher as you are dismissed.
When you leave the classroom, make sure you have everything that you brought in with you and any handouts that the teacher was distributing. When you are home, at anytime available, go over what you were taught that week in class and then it will be fresh in your mind for the next week.
