Joe Melchiona Master Instructor
Although new to the staff this year, Joe is no stranger to the Joan Harris Centre. He is the first born of founder Joan Harris and has been part of her studios dating back to Mrs. Harris’s schools in New York City, New Jersey and of course locally. For the past 24 years he his wife, Heidi, owned and operated the largest dance studio in South Florida, however, he has recently relocated to Northeastern Pennsylvania in the hopes of giving his three children the same kind of childhood he had growing up in the Wyoming Valley. Known as a teacher’s teacher, his unique style of Tap has made him a favorite on the convention circuit. Joe is on faculty with Dance Educators of America, teaching worldwide at regional and national conventions. In the past few months alone Joe has been hired to teach master classes across the country as well as in Canada and Mexico. He was the creator and Director/choreographer of “American Dance Theatre of Miami”, a performing company that performed throughout South Florida. He has performed in regional theatres playing roles in Guys And Dolls, Irma La Duce, Chicago, and Anything Goes. Joe has danced with the Miami Chamber Orchestra, and the Miami Percussion Orchestra, and is a frequent performer at New York City Tap clubs Le Cave and Swing 46. He has shared the stage with Tap legions Buster Brown, Jimmy Slide, and Chuck Green. He is cutting edge and a bonus for our students and faculty. This summer he will be teaching master classes in New York City.
