Karen Padden
Drama Instructor

Karen is the director of extremely popular “Back Stage Pass” program, a theater workshop held at the Centre. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theatrical Honor Society and is the resident drama instructor at the Scranton High School. Mrs. Padden has been performing since age six and her work has been featured in several regional venues including Bracken Theatre Company, Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, Music Box Playhouse, Wilkes-Barre Artistic Theatre Ensemble, Diva Production Company as well as in East Stroudsburg University, where she received her Bachelors in English with a concentration in the Dramatic Arts. Recognized for being a dedicated educator with a gift for working with children, she has her Master’s Degree in Education and is a member of the International Thespian Society, an honor society for high school dramatists. In addition to performing locally, Karen travels Tri-State area writing and performing in murder mystery productions. She has directed the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre’s summer theater program and has been honored with a number of NEPTA nominations in the categories of Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Work. She is currently the chairperson of the NEPTA scholarship program, which grants monies to graduating seniors who wish to make theater their primary or secondary study. Ms. Padden is the Secretary and one of the founding members of the Bracken Theatre Company. Other awards and nominations include membership in Who’s Who Among American Educators as well as being the recipient of the Best Director Award at the 2004 Peek Performances Musical Theatre Festival. She most recently was nominated for Teacher of the Year through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
