She is currently a dance major at Marymount University in Manhattan from where she received a scholarship to attend. She continues to study from the Harris Center’s battery of master instructors. For the past two years she has been hired to perform in a series of dance concerts in New York City. While living in Manhattan, she regularly to trains at STEPS and the Ballet Academy East. Kristen performs liturgical dances at Marymount Manhattan and is a member of the professional Jazz dance ensemble Push Factor. In 2002 she was selected to attend the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts and perhaps, most impressively, she was chosen to choreograph a piece for the student concert for the school. During the summers of 2001 and 2003 she attended a two-week long dance intensive at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kristen performed in a series of shows on Broadway and West 57th Street in Manhattan in September 2001. While competing at the 1999 Youth Talent Expo at Wilkes University, she was awarded first place in the dance category. A graduate of Coughlin High School, Miss Zurek was an honors student and is the editor-in-chief of the school’s newspaper. Following her mentors’ philosophy, Joan and Elisabeth Harris, she continues to expand on her experiences with the performing arts, studying classical piano and voice. Kristen experiences range from chorus to lead roles in the well over 150 productions has performed at the studio. She was chosen as the only dancer from 150 acts auditioning to perform in the Apollo Theatre’s Amateur Night at the Kirby Center. In the summer of 2003 Kristen had one of her works staged in the Pennsylvania Choreographers Showcase.
