Joan Harris believes in teaching our dancers that they are part of a greater community. She accomplishes this through the school’s participation in a wide variety of charitable affairs and community events. For over ten years the studio has run “Children Helping Children”, a program in which the Joan Harris Dancers raise monies for various charities that help children. This program has donated thousands of dollars to help underprivileged children and to organizations such as the Make A Wish Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Shriner's Children's Hospitals.
The Joan Harris Dancers have volunteered their talents to entertain at a variety of community events such as the Fine Arts Fiesta, the Dallas Harvest Fest, the Luzerne Fall Festival and the Luzerne County Holiday Fair. They have appeared at various fund raising galas and a host of personal care facilities across the region.
Our gifted choreographers have arranged dances for many theatrical productions, hosted workshops for a multitude of clubs and organizations and even visited area pediatric wards on Halloween so that the children wouldn’t spend the holiday without a bag of treats. We have choreographed liturgical dances for several different religious services and even full –length Biblical musicals.
In the minds of the Joan Harris Dancers, serving the community always was and always will be the greatest gift of all.
